AFTER THE TSUNAMI Artists were invited to make site-specific works as a response to the Tsunami, to be placed in Holy Trinity Church, South Wimbledon, during Easter Week 2005.
Words were selected and collaged together to make a basis for drawings in pencil and chalk. These were then scanned and manipulated, printed and drawn into again to increase the intensity of the image.
"Water has been a source of inspiration for a long time, exciting me by the complexity of its shapes. The loss of life in the tsunami has made me think of those for whom the sea is a burial place. I decided to make a series of drawings as a memorial, juxtaposing the restless water shapes and the words of a prayer:
'Eternal rest grant unto them O Lord And let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace.'"
Three of the series were selected for the 4th Lessedra World Art Print Annual Exhibition, June 2005 at the National Palace of Culture, Sofia, Bulgaria. All six will be on show in Guildford Cathedral in February 2007
