The British Library The Workshop of Words, Sound and Images is one of the exhibition galleries in the British Library, which offers a hands-on guide to the story of recorded information from the earliest written documents, through the development of printing to the digital revolution.
As part of the permanent exhibition, three printmakers, Simon Burder, Stanley Reece and Anne Desmet were each commissioned to produce this image in three different printing processes (lithography, copper engraving and wood engraving respectively) to illustrate the differences in approach and of the printed result. The original stone, plate and block are displayed alongside a print from each, as well as some of the tools used.

Bookplate Tessa Harfield commissioned Simon Burder to design and print a personal bookplate to reflect her work in the areas of genealogy and bookbinding, as well as her family background, home and other interests.
"Opening a book and finding a bookplate acknowledges that it has been of special value to a previous owner. I wanted to leave my mark on treasured and repaired volumes...I wanted the open window style brought up to date in my Barbican flat. The window to the balcony opens to show a miniature anniversary cedar tree with the tower looming in the background. Inside a worktable is covered with bookbinding equipment; the City of London Arms denotes my Freedom of the City and there is the Harfield crest of a swan holding a fleam, from the Arms of my Livery Company, the Barbers' Company. Lastly the seagulls, wheeling in the sky, hint at my past home by the sea and an abiding interest in ornithology."
