Simon Burder Lithography

Simon Burder works primarily from the landscape using stone lithography, a form of printmaking that enables direct drawing on and printing from the surface of a limestone block.  Often working from the same location, he develops panoramic or series of lithographs that frequently explore themes of journeying.  His current project is a study of a stretch of road near his studio at Oaks Park, building a film-like sequence of images, and evoking the changing light and weather he remembers from different journeys along the same route.

Many of the prints are available for sale.  Please enquire from the Contact page.

Simon studied Fine Art at Exeter College of Art and lithography at the École des Beaux Arts in Paris.  He runs Oaks Editions Lithography Studio, offering courses and collaborative opportunities in lithography for artists.

His lithographs have been shown in many exhibitions, most recently at the St Bride Foundation, London, and in the Ironbridge Printmaking Competition, where he was awarded the Ironbridge Colour Prize.  Other exhibitions include Land Sea Air at Belfast Print Workshop, Small But Mighty at Bankside Gallery, London, Inspired By… at Emma Mason Gallery, Eastbourne; Collaboration in Practice: British Lithography 1800-2022 at Aberystwyth University School of Art Gallery and Bankside Gallery, 8th International Lithographic Symposium, Tidaholm, Sweden, Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair, the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, National Original Print Exhibition and The Masters: Screen and Stone, Bankside Gallery, London, and Oaks Editions Lithography Studio: twenty years of artists making prints from stone, Riverside Gallery, Richmond.  His prints are included in the collections of the British Library, Cambridge University Library, Aberystwyth University, Manchester Metropolitan University Library and Leeds College of Art Library, amongst others.

Simon is a member of the Printmakers Council, Richmond Printmakers and the Heritage Crafts Association.  He teaches printmaking at City Lit and Putney School of Art & Design, as well as the stone lithography courses at Oaks Editions Lithography Studio.
